The continuous optimisation of our products and expansion of our product lines are crucial for the success of our mission: to make a practical contribution towards improving the energy efficiency of buildings and reducing costs while increasing the quality and safety of systems. As such, we have chosen to include innovation among our three core values.

 

This culture of applied innovation allows COMAP to respond to tougher regulations, meet the expectations of its customers and react to changing markets.

Integrated R&I built on dual expertise

Our R&I is based on dual expertise:

We have design departments dedicated to the industrialisation of products at each of our production sites (Abbeville, Saint-Denis-de-l’Hôtel, Montélier, Nevers, Brescia). For each new product or development, our experts can optimise the design process by taking into account the technical resources of each factory. For example, in Abbeville, vertical integration means that all transformation processes can be effectively managed.

 

 

These departments are complemented by an R&D team based at the Group’s headquarters in Lyon, which carries out research on:

> management applications for energy consumption,

solutions to reduce the energy consumption of products,

connecting interfaces and systems.

 

Eco-design : an investment for the future.

Over the past two years, COMAP has been developing its know-how in eco-design, an ambitious approach that is still not widespread in the building sector. The strategy was launched from a test site in Abbeville. It mainly consists of reducing the quantity of material used and the amount of energy involved in the process, as well as improving performance.

The first product eco-designed by COMAP was the 889 safety unit. Today, all new manufactured products are eco-designed at the Abbeville site.

At COMAP, eco-design is strictly regulated and is based on two key standards:

  • Standard NF E 01 005 defines a method of applying eco-design throughout the product design, development and industrialisation process. It provides a practical version of generic international environmental standards, such as ISO/TR 14062, “Environmental management – Integrating environmental aspects into product design and development”. It specifically applies to mechanical product design. Its ease of use and clarity make it particularly suitable for the design departments of small engineering firms. The method is based on research by CETIM (the technical centre for mechanical industries, of which COMAP is a member) and ENSAM.
  • ISO 14006, “Guidelines for incorporating ecodesign” is a variation of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, specifically adapted to the management of eco-design. It explains the management requirements to be implemented, either individually or as part of the company’s quality and environmental management systems, in order to consolidate the eco-design process.
